Marie Doris Jeanine Listoe (nee Oslund)

-

Doris was born on May 6, 1933 in Edmonton, Alberta. She attended school there and worked at the Woolworth’s candy counter and then at Dominion Motors upon graduation. Soon after, she moved with her family to Vancouver, where she worked as a secretary at Pitney-Bowes, which later transferred her to Calgary. It was at First Lutheran Church in Calgary that Doris met Carl Listoe in 1960. They were married in the same church in 1961, later moving to Edmonton and then Saskatoon, where they raised their four children. After Carl passed away, Doris moved back to Edmonton.

As a young adult, Doris participated in a number of clubs, including Luther League. Doris had a beautiful alto voice and over the years, she often sang solos at church services, weddings and special events. Throughout her life, Doris was an active church member, singing in choirs, teaching Sunday school, and serving on committees. Besides being a homemaker, she found time to work as an “Avon Lady” and as a secretary at Sears Travel. She volunteered often at her children’s schools, in neighbourhood associations, and in the library of the Lutheran Seminary in Saskatoon.

Doris enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was a member of a weekly bowling team for a number of years and often hosted family dinners for up to 40 people in her home. She loved music and travelling and was a warm, loving presence in our lives.

Doris was predeceased by her parents, Alvina and Harold Oslund, her husband Carl, daughter Michelle, sister and brother-in-law Beatrice and Carl Duberg, brothers Harry Oslund, Elmer Oslund, brothers-in-law Philip Listoe, Bernard Listoe, Paul Listoe, Paul Morck, and Dan West; sisters-in-law Rosalyn Kemtrup and Florence Morck. Left to mourn are sons Stephen and Gordon and daughter Janet, grandsons Justin and Brian, sisters-in-law Erlene Oslund, Joyce Listoe, Emily Listoe, Grace Listoe, and Sheila Listoe and brothers-in-law Danny Listoe (Bessie), David Listoe (Sandra) and John Listoe (Pam), and many nieces and nephews.

Bob Butler

I wish to convey the deepest condolences on behalf of the Butler family. Our mother, Evelyn Lund Butler, was a good friend of Doris, from childhood at Augustana Lutheran in Edmonton, until she passed away in 2013.

Doris was a wonderful, caring woman with a great sense of humour, and she will be deeply missed.

Sincerely, Bob Butler and Tim Kulak; David and Brenda Butler
