On August 30, 2015 Mrs. Maria “Mary” Mickalyk of Sherwood Park, AB passed away peacefully in the presence of family. Maria was born in Kelliher, SK on October 16, 1922.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by daughters Linda Mickalyk of Dartmouth, NS, Lee (Frank) Witthoeft of Victoria, BC and Leslie (David) Wickett of Sherwood Park, AB; grandchildren Brett Witthoeft (Kim Hart), Tracy (Randy) Price, Kim (Matthew) Fox, Karrie Wickett (Lou Vanderhaak), great-grandchildren Nicole and Andrew Fox, and sister Patricia Tuscher of Nokomis, SK. Maria will also be fondly remembered by many relatives, friends and her church family. She was predeceased by her husband George, son Paul, parents Alex and Anasthasia Shalapata, brothers Mike, Paul, Steve, Joe and Roy and sisters Tilley, Anne, Julie and Irene.
An interment of the urn will held on Monday, September 7, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at the Glendon Pentecostal Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 am at The Park Pentecostal Church, 1 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park.
In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to: Crossroads for the Turkana, Kenya Food and Water Project or Samaritan’s Purse.
The family thanks all the doctors and staff of the ER and Units 43 and 52 at the Grey Nuns Hospital for their care and compassion.

I am so sorry you have lost your Mum, she was a very nice lady. No doubt her faith and the life she lived made her who she was . It was great to see her at the 2012 family reunion and for me, I got to carry her 90th Birthday cake to her. Who better than her oldest and most favorite nephew. Just kidding…maybe.
I had asked Aunt Mary for her (Shalapata) recipes for perogies and homemade noodles with chicken soup, which she brought for me to Nokomis. When I get to make those dishes, It’ll be your Mum I’ll be thinking of.
Please know that I will be thinking of you Ladies, and your loved ones, and of course your Mother, your Father and your brother. They are now all together.
