LYMER, John Robert (Jack)

It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, John Robert Lymer, known to all as Jack.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Kareen; children Ken and Leah-Ann; grandson Anthony; nieces Donna and Susan; nephews Mark, Steve, and Neil; sisters-in-law Doreen and Kathy; and great nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife Norma, and his brother Alan.

Jack grew up in South Edmonton and graduated from the University of Alberta’s Faculty of Pharmacy in 1957, winning the gold medal from the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association for highest academic standing. After working at a laboratory in Montreal, he returned to Edmonton to work in retail pharmacy and then for decades at the Good Samaritan Society, where his career progressed from pharmacist to the administrator of the Good Samaritan Hospital, to executive vice-president of the organization. One of his proudest achievements was bringing Lifeline (now called Good Samaritan TeleCare) to Edmonton in 1987, for which he was a dedicated volunteer during his retirement.

Jack also loved to travel and was always planning his next trip to somewhere exciting. Rest in peace, dear Jack.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, our family is delaying a Celebration of Life until summer.

Memorial donations in Jack’s honour can be made to the Good Samaritan Society, Diabetes Canada, or Alzheimer Society of Canada.
