Leita Halls

-

Mrs. Leita Halls born on November 9, 1937, beloved wife of
Mr. Floyd Halls passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness
in Edmonton on Friday, October 2, 2015. Besides her husband, Leita will be sadly missed by her son Richard Halls (Mona); and two daughters, Evelyn Halls, and Stella Halls. She also leaves behind her 5 grandsons, Clinton Halls, Colby Halls, Corbin Halls, Calen Halls and David Murtagh. Leita was born on the Piikani Nation at Brocket and grew up in the traditional area of their clan of the Padded Saddles. She was fortunate to have access to grandparents in Piikani and extended family members on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana. She learned many teachings from her mom, Maggie, who was always helping families in need. The caring, sharing and respect were important teachings from her parents. Her formal schooling was at the Sacred Heart Indian Residential School, St. Mary’s Indian Residential School, and attended a few other schools. She lived with her parents’ relatives in Browning, Montana and it was here that she called home. This was memorable because made many lifelong friends whom she continued to visit throughout her life. Each year, she made annual visits to Browning visiting family, and attending the Browning Indian Days. She maintained these cultural connections and included her children on these annual excursions to Montana. Given her upbringing, and going to mass in Edmonton, Leita gave much respect of being a Catholic. Her faith was strong and she gave much devotion to attending the Lac Ste. Anne Pilgrimages. In her younger years, Leita joined the Canadian Air Force and was stationed in Ontario for two years. She developed a strong work ethic and commitment to making a good life for her family. Afterwards, she took on office and hotel jobs which later gave her the skills to work along her husband Floyd in their fire safety business. They moved from Westlock to Edmonton, and where they settled and became immersed in their grandsons’ lives, family and holiday gatherings. In these past years upon retirement, she travelled
to many places with her daughter Stella and always spoke about
the wonderful trip to Hawaii.
She is survived by her brother Alphonse Little Mustache and sisters Arlene Marshall and Sally Listener. Leita was predeceased by her parents, Noel and Maggie (nee Crowflag) Little Mustache and her
paternal grandmother, Mrs. Man Who Smokes (Sikkaiyaikii).
She was also predeceased by her brothers: Alberta, George, Bobby;
and sisters: Florence Small Legs, Joan Plain Woman, Evelyn, and Rosemary Pace. She leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, cousins
and many extended family (from Alberta, BC and Montana)
and friends. The extended family members include the following: the Provosts; Crowflags; Yellow Wings; Griers; Strikes With A Guns; Englishes; Four Horns; Goodriders; Little Dogs; McNabb; Vielles; Greens; Nightshoots; Still Smoking; and the Halls family.

I remember how kind your Mom was to me when I ran away from home that one day and came into Edmonton. She comforted me without judgement and offered me a place to stay and sort things out with my parent if needed.
I always remember her kindness and gentleness.
I am very sorry for your lost. I know we will all see each other again in heaven.

Mrs. Halls as I called Leia many year ago:blush:. I spent endless hours at their home in Dapp. Playing Canasta and Hearts into the early morning. Watching Star Trek on the weekends. Many family dinners and alway Let’s laugh:blush:. I was blessed to see Leita and Floyd and Evie recently. We shared stories of those fun times, a warm hug, and her beautiful laugh was as I remember. My deepest heartfelt sympathy to the family. Elaine
