In Loving Memory of Lawrence Dool
January 27, 1944 ~ January 9, 2020
Lawrence William Dool was born January 27th, 1944, in the back seat of a Dodge car, somewhere in the Calmar area. Lawrence passed away January 9th, 2020, in his own home in Thorsby, with his wife Shirley by his side. Lawrence lived in the Thorsby area all of his life. At the age of 16, he started work at the Thorsby Auction Mart, as a stockman and trucker. He quit at the age of 60, as Barn Boss, where he was fondly called Chief by his co-workers. He also worked as a mechanic for Chinchaga Carriers at Rainbow Lake in 1967 to 1968 and as custodian for ten years at Thorsby High School. Throughout these years he farmed as well, which was his true love. Lawrence had a strong work ethic, with work always coming first. Summer holidays only happened if it was raining. Lawrence was a kind, caring and gentle man. He loved his family and animals, and would do anything to help out his neighbors, be it mechanical repairs or helping in the fields. The doors were open to anyone, and several teenagers were given a place to stay as they sorted out their lives. Lawrence had serious health problems that he battled back from the brink of death several times. He was in extreme pain daily, but he never complained or gave up, and kept on farming and doing what he loved. He loved to combine and operate the cat filling potholes on the farms. Harvest time was his favorite time of the year, and when he got out of the hospital this fall, he went swathing and combining, even though it took several people to get him into the cabs of the machines.
Lawrence leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 50 years, Shirley; his son Richard and daughter-in-law Lori, grandchildren Cameron and Larissa; daughter Michelle and son-in-law Kurt Nahuliak, grandchildren Ember-Lynn, Amelia, Teryn, Dakota Dool and great grandchild Skyla, Nakita Dool and great grandchildren Gabriella and James Zukowski; brother Cyril (Diana) Dool and sister Dianna(Clifford) Sather, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church (5115 48 Ave, Thorsby, AB). In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lawrence may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Dear Shirley & family,
Our deepest condolences to you all on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather .
Lawrence tried his very best to always be there for all of you ,but obviously God had a different plan in mind for him and he called him home.
Many memories keep coming back of the younger years ,mostly of when Lawrence came to live with us ,helping our Dad with all the extra work . When we all went skating on the slough in the pig corral, playing cards, crockinale ,telling jokes, etc. .Lawrence was always quieter than his older brother but he also had a good sense of humour and very rarely got angry.
Treasure all your wonderful memories and know that he will always be there in spirit to help and guide. May he rest in peace and be free from suffering.Sorry that we are uable to be there for the service but our prayers are with you all.

My heart is saddened that my Godfather Uncle Lawrence has passed away. I will alway keep close to my heart the good memories I have of him, teaching me to ride my first bicycle and teaching me to drive a standard with his grain truck. I will always remember helping my Dad and Uncle Lawrence build the Church Bell Tower at the Whitsuntide Russian Orthodox Church in Memoriam of John Dool my Grandfather. Memory Eternal – Вічная Пам‘ять! – Tammy Mattiello (Dool)
