Kurt Hansen

-

On Tuesday, June 26th, Kurt passed away peacefully with his loving wife Margith at his side.

Kurt and Margith were blessed with two children, (Stephen and Peter), three grandchildren (Leanne, Kyle, and Jessica), and two great grandchildren (Gavin and Eric).

Kurt was predeceased by his parents (Gunnar and Laura), and also by his sister (Karen Margrethe) in 1967. Kurt has two brothers (Konrad in Edmonton; Svend Aage in Denmark) who mourn Kurt’s passing alongside Kurt’s many nieces and nephews and their families.

Kurt and Margith separately emigrated from Denmark to Canada in the late 1950’s and met in Edmonton in April 1959. They became engaged in 1960 and were married on September 30, 1961.

Kurt deeply loved his family and friends. Family time and celebrations with family were an important fixture in Kurt’s life. He cherished hosting family events and preparing food and drink with his wife Margith as much as he enjoyed attending the invitations to functions prepared by others. Kurt was a proud Canadian citizen; he remained deeply rooted in his love for Canada and Denmark. Kurt was confirmed at age 14 in Herrested, Denmark. Kurt and Margith supported the Ansgar Danish Lutheran Church. He and Margith shared their time as avid Edmonton Oilers fans, RV enthusiasts, and golfers.

Kurt lived a full life. To his last days, Kurt continued to enjoy his role as manager and mentor within his vocation of bricklaying. Kurt’s legacy includes involvement on many of the great masonry fixtures seen in Alberta, including countless schools, college and university buildings, malls, office towers, and so forth.

Relatives and friends are invited to Calvary Lutheran Church (10815 76 Avenue, NW, Edmonton) on Wednesday, July 4, 2018. Doors to the Sanctuary will be open at 12:30 pm with Service to begin at 1:00 p.m. All are encouraged to attend the celebration of Kurt’s life; food and refreshments are provided after the service (at Calvary Lutheran Church.)
