Krebs, Alveso Mercy

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alveso, on Sunday, November 20, 2022. She was a loving Mom, Grandma and friend to all those whose lives she touched.

She left us peacefully at her care home residence in Fort Saskatchewan at the age of 92 with family by her side.

Born in Vermilion, Alberta in 1930, Veso witnessed many incredible changes take place over the course of her life, spanning out from the one room house with no “modern amenities” where she grew up. Whether it was time spent watching nursing care and practices evolve, enjoying the Harry Potter series, learning to bake with new and “exotic” gluten free flours, mastering the use of Facetime to keep in touch with her grandchildren or asking “THE Google” to show her a video on how to bind a quilt, Veso was truly a life-long learner.

It was during her time at nursing school in Lamont, AB that she met the love of her life, Bernhard (Bernie) and the two were married in 1955, settling on the Krebs homestead to begin their new life together.

Alveso lived a full life as a wonderful mother, grandmother, homemaker and Registered Nurse. Those who knew her appreciated her advice, friendship, sense of humour and gentle ways, and there was always sure to be a cup of tea, a sugary treat, and a strong shoulder to lean on anytime you stopped for a visit.
A true farm girl at heart, gardening was one of Mom’s passions and she was very proud of her large and varied collection of orchids. This spring, why not plant something in her memory that you can share with friends and family…like heirloom tomatoes.

Above all, however, she loved her family and instilled in her Children strong values and faith that have served them well. She will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. Her cat Clara, misses her too. She was a beloved mother of Deborah (Stephen) Patterson, Carman (Monica) Krebs, Karen (Blake) Martin and the proud Grandmother of Heather (Iain) Martin, John (Abe) Patterson and Sophia Patterson.

Veso was predeceased by her devoted husband Bernie in 2013, her parents, in-laws, three of four sisters, and a brother. She is survived by her sister Sylvia O’Shea.

A celebration of Alveso’s life will be held on Friday, December 2 at 1:00 pm at First United Church, Fort Saskatchewan. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to either the Canadian Celiac Association Edmonton Chapter or Alberta SPCA.

Our family would like to express our gratitude to all of the staff at Rivercrest Care Centre for their compassionate care and love shown to Mom over the last 5 months.

“Well done good and faithful servant.”

What a pleasure it was to meet such a truly generous and delightful lady. She never failed to bring a smile to my face . I loved hearing her stories and it was obvious that she loved her faith, family ( and Clara) very much. I will miss her heartwarming giggle.
