KOLLA, Adam Jonathan “A.J.”

Adam “A.J.” Jonathan Kolla

Feb.9,1985- May 11,2019

It is with great sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Adam “A.J.” Kolla in Grande Prairie, AB on May 11, 2019. A.J. was a creative, adventurous spirit with a kind and generous heart.

A.J. will be missed and lovingly remembered by his parents, Michael and Carol Kolla of Spruce Grove, AB; son Ben Ace Trotter; brothers, Michael ( Mandy and son Wynn) of Calgary, AB and Theron Kolla of Spruce Grove, AB; grandparents, Cam and Ann Osler of Saskatoon, SK; Courtney Sullivan and her beautiful daughters of Grande Prairie, AB; as well as many very close aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

A.J. is predeceased by his grandparents, Mike and Mary Kolla of Cudworth, SK; aunts Lorette of Cudworth, SK and Kathy Osler of Saskatoon, SK.

A.J. grew up on an acreage near Devon, AB. It was there that he developed a huge love for the outdoors, adventure and fun. A.J. attended Graminia School in his early years but then transferred to the Catholic school system in Spruce Grove. He graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in 2003. He loved all sports but played mostly football and basketball. He was a fierce competitor, leader and friend to many. Some of these friendships were very deep. Dr. K and I are forever grateful for their help and support during the last days.

After graduation A.J. went to work in the oil rigs. He saved money for a great trip with friends to Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. On returning he worked again, saving to go back to school.  He soon joined his brother Mike in purchasing a condo in Calgary and moved there to attend S.A.I.T., enrolling in the Petroleum Engineering Program. He excelled in the program.

After graduation A.J. worked for a number of oilfield companies. He was well-respected and had a very good work ethic and an ability to motivate people while being their friend. Having inherited his father’s entrepreneur spirit, A.J. always dreamed of having his own business, so in 2013 along with his brothers and Trevor Osborne, they opened a spooling company SOUL Oilfield Services Corp. The name, he said, was because he put his blood, sweat and tears into this. The company operates and employs 15 people.

During his time in Calgary,  A.J. met a special gal Andrea Vega. They had seven wonderful years together. She currently lives in Mexico City .

In recent years,  A.J. has had many ups and downs. The ups were the birth of his son Ben (mother Deanna) and a relationship with a very special buddy Max (son of Deanna), as well as the relationship with a beautiful girl Courtney from Grande Prairie and her two beautiful girls. The downs were the obsessions which he made many attempts to overcome.

A.J. will be remembered as a bright source of love and energy.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2019  at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 200 Boundary Road, Spruce Grove.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite Charity, keeping in mind that A.J. loved the mountains and outdoors.

I was one of Adam’s instructors at Sait in the petroleum program. While geology was not his favorite subject [smile], he was always attentive and engaged in his work. He knew what was required of him, and he performed admirably to achieve his goals. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. I had to chuckle when I read the wish for no one to wear black. I can easily imagine him saying that! I hope that everyone gathers in celebration of the positives in his life. My best wishes to all his family.

My prayers and thoughts are with as you mourn the loss of your son, AJ. How I wish, I could just take on some of that pain you are both experiencing, Carol and Mike; I can’t even imagine or identify with your pain but be assured that Jesus is aware of your pain and when the road is really rough , HE will carry you ( the reason for one set of footprints in the sand). Adam , I truly believe is now resting in the arms of Jesus . I ‘m also thinking of you,Michael and Theron; you both lost a brother that you were very close to. Hold on to the many, many good memories of AJ; spend time together talking about the good times, the fun times .. his memory will live on through your mom and dad as well as you both ; the Kolla family and his many, many loyal friends. I will remember him for his infectious smile.., he came into the 7-11 on Grove Drive where I worked quite often ; I will hold on to that “ picture” of him. RIP AJ..,rest easy in the arms of Jesus .

May the support and prayers of family and friends , and your deep faith in God sustain you in this very difficult journey. No words can describe or lessen the pain of losing a child. May you both be an example of courage and strength to other parents who face similar situation…and may
God grant you the SERENITY to accept the things you. Cannot change ; COURAGE to change the things you can… and WISDOM to know the difference!
