Our wonderful mother, Susan Sayers, passed away on Saturday, August 28th, at the age of 94.
Mom was born and raised in Toronto. She would tell stories of riding the streetcars and swimming in Lake Ontario. Summers were spent at the family cottage at Honey Harbour on Georgian Bay.
On a train to Toronto Mom met a handsome young RCMP officer. They began talking, and the conversation lasted 66 years. They married and shortly after moved west to Edmonton. Their lives were quickly filled with various moves and raising their family. Mom was an excellent cook, still baking bread in her 80’s. She was a voracious reader and was never without something to read. Mom was a very kind and compassionate woman who spent her entire life taking care of everyone around her.
Mom will live forever in the hearts and memories of her children: Katherine, Tom (Pam), Bridget (Bob) Raynard, Rosemary (Mike) Owens, Elizabeth (Francois) Hebert, Barbara (Brian) Tardif, Georgia (Ken) Hunsley, Andrea and Michaela (Dave Regner).
Her life was blessed with 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Neil, and her daughter Maria.
We thank all of the staff at Good Samaritan Zetter who touched mom’s life and provided such wonderful care for the last 4 years.
Mom has been cremated and a private family funeral mass will be held on Saturday, September 11th at 11 am at St. Francis Xavier Church. The mass will be livestreamed on the church’s website (stfxcamrose.caedm.ca).
In lieu of flowers, please give thanks to God for the people in your life. Hug the people you love.
