KIDD, George Thomson

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Thomson Kidd, on April 9, 2022 at the age of 75 years. A loving husband, wonderful father, and cherished grandfather (Pops). George was the eldest son of George Cuthbert Kidd and Davina Roberts Kidd.

George is survived by his loving wife Marjory of 49 years; son Andrew (Kim); daughter Sarah; grandchildren Rhett, Ella, Ben, and Reese; brother Eric (Anna); sisters Lorna and Pamela (John); brother-in-law Alan (Marian) and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family in the U.K. and Canada.

Our beloved George devoted his life to his family and friends and fostered deep and enduring relationships. This was a testament to his kindness and reflective of his caring spirit.

George worked as a Professional Mining Engineer in Africa, Dubai, U.K., and Canada. He retired after a long and fulfilling career with Syncrude as a Staff Mining Engineer.

The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the nurses and medical staff at the University of Alberta Hospital for their care and compassion. Also, a special thank you to Dr. Brown and his team as well as our family physician, Dr. Zayani and his staff.

As per George’s request, there will be no service. Instead, in honour of his memory, you are invited to raise a glass and have a “wee dram” of single malt scotch whisky in George’s name or encouraged to plant some marigolds, George’s favourite flower, to remember his gentle nature and kind spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes can be made to the University of Alberta Hospital, the S.P.C.A., or the United Way.

GEORGE: You can climb your mountain in Africa as many times as you wish now.

“We will hold you forever in our hearts until we meet again.”
