Kenneth John Pengelly, long time Edmonton worker and compassionate visiting person dimmed his light on July First, Canada Day, 2016 at the young age of 82.
Ken was born in Edmonton, the fifth child of six children to parents Agnes and Frederick. His lifetime of over 50 years of employment working extremely hard every day along with almost perfect attendance. He arrived to work by walking or biking. A true Athlete. His passion for Hockey; playing, watching and attending games grew from the heart. He loved kids and by showing his Love… He supported the grandkids and the children’s activities of Family and Friends or any child by attending their games of hockey, basketball, volleyball, swimming and the Arts. He lived and breathed Hockey. He was enthusiastic for the outdoors; horseback riding as a teen, camping, extra long walks and swimming across lakes. He had a love for playing cards; pinnacle and crib. Ken also loved visiting, meeting and greeting his Family and Friends. If Ken came to visit you, just ask him how he arrived? Walked! He will be fondly remembered for his warmth, generosity and charisma. He leaves behind an everlasting Legacy of Love.
Ken is survived by his loving children Cinde (Gerrit), Cheryl; grandchildren Marris and Dustin; sister Millicent, brother Douglas; and many relatives and friends. Ken was predeceased by his passionate loving wife Elsie of 52 years; Parents, brothers Glenn (Betty), Donald (Chris), Les, In-Laws; Louie, Flo, Ross and many relatives. The Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Nursing Staff and Doctors at the RAH Hospital and Norwood Extended Care Facility. Following Ken’s wishes Cremation has taken place and no service will be held.
In memory, the songs in his heart were North to Alaska, I Did It My Way, You Are My Sunshine. Let his light shine brighter each day forward. To everyone he met, you were extremely important and special to him. Ken was a proud Canadian and one of a kind. Keep walking!
In lieu of flowers, a Donation to the Edmonton Food Bank would be warmly welcomed. Let’s feed the Families with good food to Stay Strong and Healthy.
