VAN KEIMPEMA, Garry Lee Van

With a profound sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, granddad, brother, and son-in-law, Garry Lee Van Keimpema on January 28, 2023 at the age of 66, in Cochrane, Alberta.

Garry was born in Calgary but grew up in Edmonton, the eldest of three children. He was awarded his Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Alberta in 1979 and most of his 40-year career was spent working with the Dene Tha’, Ermineskin, and Stoney Nakoda First Nations. He also worked with Parks Canada in the Lake Louise, Yoho, and Kootenay National Parks managing numerous capital asset projects.

While Garry loved camping, hiking, skiing, snorkeling, and travelling, and was a handy man who could fix and build anything, he took the most pride in his family. He married the love of his life, Katherine, in 1984 and together they raised four children, Danielle (Jakob), Justin, Brittany (Steve), and Lauren. For the past year he provided care to his granddaughter, Calliope, who gave him great joy. Garry also leaves to mourn his loss, his brother Martin (Tracey), his sister Kathalene, his mother-in-law Margaret, Aunts Greta and Pouline, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Garry was predeceased by his parents, Tjibbe (Tim) and Anita, and his nephew, David.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Woodvale Community Hall located at the Millwoods Golf Course, 4540 – 50 Street Edmonton, AB. Cremation has taken place.
