On Sunday April 25, 2021, Calvin Dennis Kangas, loving son, brother and uncle, passed away at the age of 62.
Dennis was born on March 18, 1959 in Edmonton, AB to Gladys and Warner Kangas. He grew up in Calgary and graduated from St. Francis High School. Dennis loved to cook and work with his hands. He got into leather craft and one of his miniature leather saddles won him a second-place ribbon at the Calgary Stampede Arts and Crafts competition. While in high school, he worked for Roma Catering where he first developed a love for Italian cooking. With his handsome good looks and dark, rugged features, he loved blending with his Italian friends in catering. He left home right after graduation and soon started working in the oil industry, well-testing. He worked for Halliburton and various companies, spending 35 years traveling around the world working until the Ebola pandemic made him reconsider working in foreign countries and he retired in 2016. Dennis maintained his home on a farm near Leduc, AB, and returned to raising horses, cattle and occasionally chickens. He was a dog-lover and always had a four-legged faithful companion by his side.
Dennis was predeceased by his father Warner and brother Larry; maternal grandparents Andrew and Millie Farion; and paternal grandparents Karl and Bernice Kangas.
He is survived by his mother Gladys; his brother Glenn (Laurie) and children: Logan, Caden, Kendra, Spencer, and Jacey; his sister Jeannie (Paul) and children: Andrew and Hallie; his sister-in-law Sharon Kangas and nieces Jessica and Sarah; Aunts Loretta, Valerie, Joan and Diane; and many cousins.
Thank you to Dennis’s friends from Leduc and area, for their friendship and support to Dennis over the years. Special thanks to George Wilson for his recent care and assistance.
There are no plans for a funeral at this time; a private memorial will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to pay tribute to Dennis is asked to make a donation in his name to the Humane Society of Leduc.
