It is with sad hearts and fond memories that we announce the peaceful passing of Ron Kachman.
Ron was born in Willingdon, Alberta and attended school in Vegreville, Strome, and Daysland. After graduating in Electrical Engineering at the U of A, he continued in a Master’s program that culminated in a M.Sc degree. He was initially hired by NAIT as an electronics instructor and this position evolved into a highly rewarding professional career until his retirement as Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronics Technology in 2007. Related to his responsibilities at NAIT, he was privileged to serve on a number of external committees including ASET, CTAB, CNSASET, ESON, and NCDoT. During the later stages of his career, he created and championed NAIT’s Women in Technology and Trades (WITT) initiative and was an integral part of the team that advocated for the Bachelor of Technology degree program; all of which will be part of his legacy of his 41 years at NAIT.
Many people will remember Ron as an avid problem solver and inventor, visionary and mediator, advocate and friend. He was an avid sports fan, science fiction enthusiast, and passionate gardener with his beloved wife Cheryle, who was his soulmate for 49 years.
Ron’s memory will be cherished by his wife Cheryle, his daughter Olivia and her partner Don Welsh, and his son David; his younger sister Laureen Poston and her husband Ted; his nephews Garett and Kevin and their families; his many cousins, colleagues, and friends.
The family invites you to a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 20, 2018 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Fresh Express Banquet Hall, Room U122 (Building U) Learning Resources Building at NAIT, 118 Ave NW and 106 St NW.
