Josephine Victoria Topolnisky passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre in Edmonton on March 5, 2020, at the age of 88 years.
Josie was born to Joseph and Katherine Babbik and raised on the family farm east of Elk Island Park; along with five sisters and two brothers.
Mom is survived by her younger sister Alyce Pruden, her four children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; Teresa Favaloro, Bruce and Kandis Topolnisky and their two sons Oliver and Owen, Craig and Marion Topolnisky, Janice Webb and Marvin Sawatzky, Janice’s son Ryan and Diane Webb, and their two children, Jamie and Jack.
Josie cared deeply for all her children and was most happy at family gatherings, where she would be busy cooking and looking after her grandchildren. Perogies and cabbage rolls were her specialty, and she never attended a family visit without preparing some. Josie worked hard throughout her life at the Alberta Tree Nursery, Safeway and Alberta Hospital. After retirement, Josie had the great fortune to travel all over the world and loved to send postcards to all of her family.
Cremation has taken place, and Josephine’s cremated remains will be interred in a peaceful location.
