On the morning of March 28, 2020, Gordon Stanley Johnstone passed away at the age of 93 years.
Gordon, a native Edmontonian, the second son of James and Florence Johnstone, served in the Royal Canadian Navy and attended the University of Alberta. In December of 1949, Gordon married his lifelong love, Lillian Munro. Together, they raised four children, Cathy, Leslie, Hal, and Johann.
Retiring from a business career to become a farmer, Gordon enjoyed building homes and a cottage, metal work, and restoring cars. He was a true renaissance man.
Gordon is preceded in death by his wife Lillian, son Harold, and daughter Leslie McEvoy. He is survived by his sisters Elizabeth Marshall and Patricia Gibbons; daughters Catherine (Peter) Goddard and Johann DeWolfe; 7 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Gordon’s credo was the poem “Invictus” by William E. Henley.
“I am the Master of my Fate
I am the Captain of my Soul.”
As per Dad’s wishes, there will be no formal services. Please raise a glass in remembrance.
