JOHNSON, James “Jim” Age 78 of Spruce Grove, passed away on October 18, 2021. Born in Erickson, MB on February 15th, 1943. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Erven), son Allan (Stephen Lanteigne), daughter Deborah (Arnold) Kootenay and grandchildren Garry & Holden, sister Lynne (Ken) Watts and several nieces and nephews. Jim is predeceased by his parents John “Roy” and Christine (Oleniuk) Johnson, siblings Jennifer Aquin, Victor Rushton, Phyllis Anderson, and Mildred Crockett, and a number of other relatives and friends.
Right Worshipful Brother James Johnson, was a devoted, committed and dedicated Mason for the last 40 years. He was first initiated into the Masonic fraternity on January 22, 1982 at Jasper Lodge #14 in Edmonton. He was subsequently passed to the degree of a fellowcraft and was raised to the rank of Master Mason (1982). Jim was a “Charter Member” of Baseline Lodge #198 in Spruce Grove and was named as “Senior Warden”(1993). Brother James “Jim” Johnson was installed as the first Worshipful Master of the new lodge, which was a historic moment (1993). He was also an honorary member of Meridian #129 and Royal Arch Masons. As a proud true Freemason he also served as Past Master, Lodge Registrar, Historian, bursary director and District Deputy Grand Master (Yellowhead).
Jimmy left home at 15 years old, to make his fortune and create a better life from his humble beginnings. His vast work experience included auto body painting & repair, truck driving, shipping-receiving, parts, salesman and management. He worked 47 years in the floor covering industry which he retired from twice (2008 & 2012). He passionately volunteered and helped others in need without recognition, or anyone knowing. Some of his favourite things were supporting the S.G. Saints, gardening, golf, fishing, camping and learning new things. He was a feisty advocate for the principles he believed in. Jolly Jim was known for his humour, love of family, vast skill set, and being the best Papa and father ever. He was deeply respected and will be missed by everyone who was touched by knowing him.
