It is with great sadness the family of John “Jack” Balfour announces his sudden and unexpected passing on September 14th, 2017 at the age of 85.
Jack is remembered with love by his wife of 63 years Marie; his only sibling Lois (Dave) Pritchard; his children Bob (Nola), Sharon (Barry) Sutherby, Jim (Penny); along with his 8 grandchildren [ Laura (Tom) Bradka, Mike (Des)], [ Brian (Ashley), Greg, Janelle (Rodney)], [ Ann-Marie (Shawn) Stuckky, Sherry (Johnny) Coffey, Ryan (Darion)] as well as 7 great-grandchildren.
Jack was in good health up until the start of this year when it was determined that he required open heart surgery, which occurred in early June. Unfortunately, he did not recover as anticipated and was in and out of the hospital until the middle of August.
Jack’s professional career as manager and programmer began at Alberta National Drug Ltd. and continued until his retirement at Luscar Coal Ltd. He enjoyed Curling, Square/Round Dancing, and ancestral research, producing an extensive family tree. He will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew him.
As per his wishes he will be cremated and laid to rest alongside his grandfather whom he very much cherished, in his home town of Lumsden, Saskatchewan.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held at a later date.
