John Dublin

John passed away peacefully at age 77 at Grandview Capital Care in Edmonton on April 19, 2018.

John was born in Leiden Netherlands during the occupation in WWII, immigrating to Canada with his family in 1951: siblings Arthur, Craig, Wilma, Irene, Johanna, Mary and Margaret.

John worked for Environment Canada as a meteorologist for his career in different centers across Canada: Edmonton, Regina, Fredericton, and Greenwood, NS.

John married Sharon Foster in 1969, and his family grew to include two children and four grandchildren. John & Sharon divorced in 2006.

He later remarried Elaine Rennich in 2009 who predeceased him in 2015.

John is survived by his son Ian (Gillian) and grandchildren Adam, Laura and James of Ottawa, and daughter Kimberly (Bryce) and grandson Evan of Edmonton.

Always happy to pitch in and lend a hand to family and friends, had a sharp mind (especially trivia and current events), and always enjoyed a good joke. John will be missed.

A Visitation will be held at Serenity Funeral Service North Central location, 10129 Princess Elizabeth Ave, Edmonton on Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life for John at 2:00 p.m.

John as one of my several cousins when our families all immigrated in 1951 from Holland. We were in St. Catharines and I always loved our visits to see John’s family who lived in Hamilton. I looked up to John as a role model and when I started University life in Waterloo we lived together and he helped me succeed after a difficult start. As friends we stayed in touch by writing many letters and I visited him when he worked in NS and NB. Later in life we lost contact for unknown reasons but I will always cherish the good relationship we had earlier on. Thank you John for being my friend.

My condolences to all of John’s family and friends. As a fellow meteorologist with Environment Canada, I worked with John for quite a few years in Halifax/ Bedford. It was always a pleasure.
