Thanks for this insight, Laurie. As Joan’s sister, I too thought that was a brave venture–a lot of driving, heavy traffic, camping, etc. but at least she did it with two good sports.

My auntie Joan was such a gentle and giving person. I’m not the a very good Christian, but it sure wasn’t for lack of example! Of EVERY single person I have ever met in my 45 years, including pastors and missionaries, Joan was the closest I have ever seen to what Jesus taught us to be. Soft spoken and yet so strong. I’ve never heard Joan utter a harsh word even sometimes when she should have. Her heart and her home were always open 24/7, and her positive attitude in even the worst situations could not help but lighten your spirit after even the briefest conversation. We may miss Joan here on earth, but I’m quite sure Heaven is a just a little bit brighter now that she is there, and that helps me send her there with joy rather than sorrow. Love you Joan

I really wish I could be there for the service. I have so many great memories of Joan growing up. When Billie and I were 14 her mom took us on a road trip to California. I now think how brave she was to embark on this trip with only herself and 2 young teenage girls. The trip was fantastic and a great learning experience for me. Joan was such a strong woman, warm and caring with a great sense of adventure. She will always be remembered and I feel lucky to have had her in my life.

Billie-Jo,
I am your Mother’s cousin, daughter of your Mom’s Uncle Einar. I met you once many years ago. You and your Mom joined my husband and our kids at Ebba’s for supper. Your Mom was a sweetheart and was always very special to my Dad. We are so sorry to hear of her passing.

One of the strongest women I ever knew. When I was battling my own demons, auntie Joan didn’t miss one day without saying a prayer for me. I have fond memories of Joan when we were growing up. Billie I love you and now your mom is at peace with all our family Angels up in heaven :bow:

I remember our sleep overs as kids we use to have and sitting around table having supper together she made great meals and Loved her taco salad.. Always so welcoming, caring and warm to be around. What a wonderful woman she will be missed by many who knew, came in contact and who she loved, she reached there hearts

Joan was my Aunt and Godmother. I always remember how much she loved spending time with family and friends. Anyone was welcome at any time for any reason. She had a heart full of love and she shared it with everyone who knew her. She prayed fervently for her loved ones and anyone who asks and she had a faith that could move mountains. I am blessed to have had her in my life.
