Jean Anne Woodrow
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Jean Anne Woodrow on Sunday, October 13, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
Jean was born in Yorkshire, England. She graduated from the Universities of Manchester and London. As a young woman, Jean came to Canada on a holiday and, subsequently, made Canada her home. She met and married Dennis Woodrow in Winnipeg, Manitoba, where she taught school while earning a Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba. Jean and Dennis moved to Edmonton where she continued her teaching career. Jean became well-known in educational circles, both locally and nationally, as a gifted teacher, director of children’s choirs, and music consultant. She received a City of Edmonton Cultural Achievement Award in 1983, and was awarded a grant from the British Council and Alberta Culture to study programs in the United Kingdom in 1987.
After retiring from teaching, Jean served three terms as school trustee for Edmonton Public Schools, working tirelessly to improve standards and practices in education.
Left to mourn her loss is her loving husband, Dennis, and many friends and colleagues in Canada and abroad.
A memorial service is planned for a later date. Details regarding this service will be announced when finalized.
In lieu of flowers, donation to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
Within our hearts, the ones we love
are never really gone-
In spirit and in memory
their legacy lives on.
