Judy, Pam & Pete. Sorry to here of Ivan’s passing. I have only great memories of Ivan as I grew up playing hockey in DSM & eventually for Bucs. Ivan gave me many opportunities as well as helping me pick a college. We all enjoyed those years playing for Ivan & always new his passion for our teams. I couldn’t be happier than to have had Ivan as my coach & friend.

One of my many memories is after a Des Moines Capitola game when Ivan was working as a linesman . The lockers that were in the hall ways a small kid knocked one of them over and I wasn’t big snuff to put them back , Ivan was coming down the hall I yelled Ivan he came over lifted the locker back into place and gave the kid that famous Ivan glare, I’m Will always miss him. The legacy of Ivan will be remembered by hockey friends in Des Moines as the father and the “face” of Des Moines Buc’s hockey. Long before 1980, when he was our first coach, he was a fan favorite, playing defense for the Oak Leafs. The Rupp ( St. Louis) and the Ill families remember him as a friend. Thanks for the memories!

judy birge & family

I remember so many great times with Ivan & his great family. The last time we got together before the move to Fort McMurray. We stood in the yard as he burned his famous suit jacket he always wore coaching the Bucs. He was great man with lots of love & compassion! He will be greatly missed by our family! We love you Ivan. You & your family!!

Every time I saw you, you were upbeat and always had a smile. You lived life to the fullest and fiercely loved your grandkids. You will be missed.
