Irene Agnes Martin (née Lauf)
July 5, 1932 – July 13, 2014
On July 13, 2014 Irene Agnes Martin (née Lauf) passed away peacefully in Edmonton at 82 years of age, surrounded by her loving family. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 60 years Gerhard, daughters Cornelia (Kent) and Loretta (Frank), and grandchildren Selena and Martin. She is also survived by her brother Arthur (Brunhilde), brother Helmut, and cousin Ewald (Marlies), and leaves behind many relatives and friends who are saddened by her passing. She was predeceased by her parents Robert and Olga and by her brother Georg (survived by wife Lydia).
She was a woman of wisdom, wit, and kindness, and a devoted mother and wife. While we mourn her passage we take solace in the peace she has found now, and will hold her in our hearts forever.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Irene’s Life will be held at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 10759-96 Street on Monday, July 21, at 3 PM. Condolences may be sent at In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or to CapitalCare Norwood. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the Royal Alex 5th Floor and the Norwood Centre for their exemplary care and kindness.
