Helen Kadach

Our wonderful mother passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Oct. 25th, 2018 at the age of 91.

Helen was born in McAuley, MB on June 10, 1927. Her Mennonite parents had just immigrated from Russia and times were tough. They soon moved to the Graysville area. Mom knew what is was like to go without, and to work hard on the family farm. “Running water” was the liquid she filled pails with after “running” to the river! The most important decision of her life was choosing to be part of God’s loving family by receiving the forgiveness offered by Jesus. Mom loved to sing and to serve in church. She was always a kind and compassionate person with an outgoing personality. She became a nurse, working in rural hospitals, later this gift of care would flow to many others in her life. She met Albert Kadach at a church service and fell in love, getting married in 1959, making their home in Edmonton. Helen was a faithful wife, but missed her family from Manitoba, and every year we would make the long drive to connect with the siblings for great visits. Mom was an amazing cook, and often had neighbours dropping in for fresh baked buns. She would bring meals to others who were sick or elderly and took care of her ailing mother-in-law for years. Mom’s smile was contagious, and we loved her sense of humour. Mom loved to shop – finding a good sale deal was always a highlight, and she was a formidable garage sale negotiator! For a number of years, she enjoyed hosting Tupperware parties, and later opened up her home as a bed & breakfast facility. Newcomers to Canada were often invited over for a meal, and would leave with leftovers and practical items to use in their household. The German Church in Edmonton was an important part of her life, singing in choir, volunteering and enjoying the many friendships made. Mom loved her husband & her 3 boys – she was always there for us! “Oma” so much enjoyed the company of her 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren! You made a difference Mom – we will miss you!

Helen is survived by her loving husband, Albert and 3 sons: Rudy, Paul (Heather), Larry as well as 2 brothers – Bert Epp (Helen), Art Epp (Kathleen), sister-in-law, Leni Epp (John), and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also mourning are: Brother-in-laws, Gus & Adolf Kadach (Edith) & Sister-in-laws, Lydia Janzen (Frank) & Elsie Seide.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Margaret Epp, brothers – John & Pete (Betty), sisters, Katharina Sawatzky (Henry) and Irma Hildebrandt (John).

Felix and Linda Kuehn

Our condolences to the family of Helen. We recently heard about her passing from our cousin Leonard Ferchoff. Helen’s brother Bernard Epp was Linda’s elementary school teacher at Thalberg South School. Albert and Helen visited us in Beausejour in 1984. May her memory be eternal!
