Dear Wayne and Terry
Condolences to you and your family on the loss of your dear mother. She was my first teacher. I knew only about six words in English when I started school. She made me feel safe and I loved, admired and respected her all her life.
John remembers the lines she had him write about respecting school property. He remembers going to your uncles home to load the piano on the horse drawn sleigh, pulled across the field, for the Funnell Christmas concert. How we loved the plays, drills and songs we did for that special day.She had such a beautiful voice. Her penmanship was excellentAt the end of a school day she would read the grade 1 to 8 class a chapter from a book.Anne of Green Gables and Treasure Island come to mind. I remember the homecoming at Funnell in the 70’s.We regret that she was unable to attend the 100 th Anniversary of the Funnell School in 2012,however she was remembered.
Many of her first class remained in the same community where she lived so we saw her often. Less after she and your father moved to Leduc. We have fond memories of a beautiful lady..

40 years later, my friends and I still reminisce about Mrs. Hooks and how much we loved her. She showed up each day with joy and curiosity. Her voice swept us away to magical places and I always sat as close as possible, not wanting to miss a thing. Thank you, dear teacher.

Dear Terry and Wayne, I am sorry for the loss of your mother. She was my grade 2 teacher (‘61-‘62) when we lived in Warburg and I liked her a lot. I remember you from the Breton church where my Dad, Eric, was the pastor. I visited your Mom at her home in 1990 with my parents and we reminisced about those years.
