GUSTERUD, Aage Oistein

-

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that  our family announce the sudden passing of Aage who slipped away quietly in his sleep on Monday, April 20, 2020 at the age of 72 years.

Survived  by his wife Linda Gusterud;  daughters Samantha Clark (Wil Clark), Jade Rude (Susan McCallum), Rey Gusterud (Jamie Adolf) and Kriszta Stevens; his granddaughter Hailey Clark; and great-granddaughter Harland Clark; as well as his brother Trond Gusterud (Edel Gusterud); nephew Tom Gusterud (Nina Gusterud); niece Elin Gusterud-Nordfjeld (Kjetil Nordfjeld) and all Aage’s family in Norway, not to mention the innumerable extended family members whom he loved so dearly.

Aage was born in Skotterud, Norway on August 8, 1947. He immigrated to Canada in 1971 and settled in Prince George, BC working in the logging industry with his buddy Arne. That is also where he met the love of his life Linda Gray.  Aage and Linda were married in Prince George, BC on May 19, 1974 and started their life together. They moved to Edmonton in 1980 and raised their 3 girls in the city for 19 years before buying their dream acreage, dubbed Kveldsdro (Evening Peace) in 2000.

In 1992 Aage became a hotshot oilfield truck driver, which was well suited to his love of driving the open road. He continued this career until he retired from trucking in 2019.

His quick wit, punny sense of humour, love of animals and music (especially Motown) and his extremely big heart will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched. He was the kind of man who could make anyone he just met feel like they had been life long friends in just one conversation. He always made time to share his love of camping with family and friends and very much enjoyed his time sitting by the fire, cheering on his favourite hockey team (the Edmonton Oilers of course) and watching NASCAR.

As per his wishes there will be no formal services. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Aage Gusterud’s honour may be made to the Edmonton Humane Society (https://www.edmontonhumanesociety.com/how-to-help/donate/donate-now/), a charity that was very near and dear to his heart.

To Linda and girls,

It was such a shock to hear of Aage’s passing. He was a joy to work with and probably the last time any of saw him was at the Company Christmas luncheon. He was entertaining us all with that great smile and camping stories.

From all of us at Jonnys Oilfield Hauling, Aage will be very missed.

David Pierce

Aage is a true gentleman, and has always been a friend to his colleagues, neighbours, volunteers from Edmonton Humane Society and fellow drivers. He will be missed by all.

Dear Linda
We were so saddened to hear of Aage’s sudden passing. He was always a favourite friend in the Strom family and we considered him a cousin . We have so many good memories of Aage as over the years he lived at our house several times.
He was a truly good person and always had a beautiful smile on his face. He came to several Strom family reunions and it was wonderful that he felt a part of the family.
Our sincere condolences to you and your family Linda and I know you all have many wonderful memories that you will always relish.
Janet and Dave Reidie
