With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Peter Greenways on Monday, June 14, 2021, at the age of 86. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Bertha; their nine children: Matthew (Patricia), Jeannette (Sylvester) Furtak, Charles (Maria), William (Maria), Anita, Leo (Susan), Peter (Julia), Gloria (Peter) Schlack and Richard (Angela); and 18 grandchildren: Daniel, Salomea, Aurelia, Carsten, Nolan, Nigel, Everett, Sasha, Luke, Chloe, Vincent, Jeremy, Adam, Matteo, Landon, Valerie, Juliana, and Zachary. He is also survived by a large family in Ontario and the Netherlands. As well, many friends and associates are left to remember his warm company and guidance.

Peter grew up in Gouda, the Netherlands. There he met and married Bertha, and they soon immigrated to Canada, finding opportunity in Alberta. They worked hard and raised a wonderful family on the ‘Vita Nova’ acreage. Peter also had success in business, establishing several companies in the electroplating and machining industries. Peter continued to enjoy the challenge of his work until a sudden illness took his strength and breath away.

Peter’s motto was “Live a life of service and cheer”. He did this well. His work is done. May he find eternal rest. He also encouraged others with “Keep up the good spirit” and “Keep Zincing”. We will carry forward his legacy.

Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:00pm on Saturday July 24, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 13 Brower Drive, Sherwood Park.

In lieu of flowers, please be of service to others and donate to a charity of your choice.

Barb & Shirley Yakimets

We would like to send our condolences to Bertha and her children. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have very found memories of Mr Greenways from church and when the children attended OLA school. You could always pick Mr Greenways out as he was the tallest dad around. He always had the most well behaved family in church. Not to long before COVID hit we saw Peter and Bertha in church and he was still very energetic and dancing about. Take care and God bless. Barb Shirley Yakimets.
