GREEN, Lois Marie

Lois Marie Green

Lois Marie Green died unexpectedly of heart failure on January 27, 2022 at the age of 63. She was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Morris and Marie (née Bovbjerg) Green, both of whom predeceased her. Lois is survived by her siblings David (Aggie), Marlys (Mike) and Loren, and by nieces, nephew, cousins, and aunts.

During her early years, Lois’s family relocated numerous times as her father, a Lutheran Pastor, moved between parsonages.  They finally settled in Salmon Arm, B.C., and Lois graduated from high school there. She completed a degree in education at the Camrose Lutheran College and University of Alberta.

Lois moved to Leduc and established deep roots.  Her impact on the community has been immeasurable — she was much loved throughout the city.  Lois was a music teacher,  extended care recreation aide, activity coordinator in extended care, day care caregiver, substitute education assistant, and church pianist. She was a member of the Leduc and Area Music Teachers Association.  Always on the go, she was a social butterfly and enjoyed many coffees with friends at Timmies and Starbucks. Her friends were very important in her life and she had remained in close contact with many over the years.

Music was a passion Lois shared with her mother.  She gravitated to the piano and completed her grade 10 RCM.  As a music teacher, Lois patiently and joyfully shared her love of music with her many students, young and old. In addition, Lois’ talents graced the keyboards of Peace Lutheran and many other nearby places of worship, including performing duets with her mother. She accompanied junior high choirs, community choirs (which she also sang with), and played for music festivals.

Lois’ positivity, enthusiasm and love of life will be greatly missed. We will remember her “sparkle”.

A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, February 03, 2022, at Peace Lutheran Church, Leduc, Alberta at 1:00 pm for family and friends.  Proof of vaccination must be presented by attendees.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Thaddeus Lake Music Foundation, which was created to help children and youth who might not otherwise be able to experience music. An e-transfer may be sent to [email protected]

We knew Lois as she grew up in Salmon Arm. She was such a positive person and a lovely babysitter for our children. Her musical talent was always enjoyed and in particular we remember the duets with her mother Marie.
Our sympathies to her family who were also students of Deans at the highschool and he remembers with fondness.

I attended Camrose College with Lois and we got to know each other better when we shared an apartment one summer. Our visits over the years usually involved coffee and shopping. I will miss her very much. My deepest condolences to her beloved family.

I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Lois during my tenure at Peace Lutheran Church. Each morning I would arrive to the Church office to start my day as the office administrator and I would be welcomed to the beautiful sound of Lois playing the piano. Due to the pandemic, often times it would just be the two of us and I very much enjoyed hearing her play the piano so passionately. Her and I would exchange stories and she would proudly show me the newest pictures of her family on her phone. It was clear to me how proud she was of her family! I will miss her high energy, her music, and seeing her latest purchases from the nearby mall (we shared the same love of the color pink!). Although I didn’t know Lois long, she made quite the impact in that short time. My deepest condolences to the family and all her friends who knew and loved her. Rest easy Lois, I hope you are playing your piano amongst all the angels.

My sincere condolences to family and friends on the sudden passing of Lois. She was a wonderful Educational Assistant. We had many wonderful conversations on our lunch breaks when she came in to sub at our school. Lois will be greatly missed by many.

Grace Henderson

Lois was the most amazing volunteer accompanist at Ecole Leduc Junior High School for our choir. She came to the school every week and gave her very best as a musician. She would arrive and greet our office staff warmly as she signed in. Then she would head to the music room and always led the choir through their warm-up before Miss Grace arrived. The music room was filled with junior high voices and the sound of the piano played by our accomplished musician. It was a really happy place. Time would fly by and the students would depart and as Miss Grace rushed off to class Lois would always say, “I’ll call you tonight!” Later that evening, they would discuss the rehearsal and Lois always wanted to know if there was anything that could be improved.

The news of Lois’ death is a blow to our school community, choir program, and very personally to Miss Grace. Lois had become a respected partner in the choir program and a friend to Miss Grace. On our Spring Tour, each year, Lois was more than an accompanist–she was a chaperone and took that role seriously. The students respected her. She and Miss Grace were hotel roommates, and Lois loved to discuss the events of the day before they fell asleep.

It is our hope that these few words will help everyone to understand what she meant to us here at ELJHS. We don’t know how we are going to regroup and start choir again without her, but to honour her memory, we will figure it out down the road. Right now we just need some time to grieve.

Thank you, Lois, it was a privilege to witness your passion to make our choir program at ELJHS great. You were beloved here!

This loss is a shock to our community. Lois held a big place in the hearts of many, and she will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to her family and her many friends. I have no doubt she will continue making music in her new, Heavenly home.
