David Gordon Brown, our beloved husband, father, Gramps, and friend went peacefully home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, February 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
David is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of 45 years; along with his three children: Andrew (Breanne), Natasha (Stephen) Bleile, Rowena (John) MacNeil and by his eight grandchildren: Stella, George, Jane, Adrian, Jaelyn, Lucy, Declyn, and Samuel.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 21st at Lighthouse Church, 49 Boulder Blvd, Stony Plain, AB, T7Z 1V6.
In his life time, David was extremely generous with his time, finances, resources, and even his courage. His flower of choice was the dandelion as he’d rather give to others than spend money on flowers! As such, we are requesting memorial tributes (In lieu of flowers) be made to Hopethiopia or Freedom Tree.
Being an orphan in East Africa can be a life-sentence; orphan-hood does not end at the age of maturity. Lack of opportunity, education, advocacy and security forces orphans to do the most unspeakable things simply to survive and any hope of leaving such oppressive lifestyles vanishes. Hopethiopia is committed to holistically caring for the parentless, of Ethiopia and Rwanda, by providing loving homes for children and youth, and trades training for sex trade workers, victims of gender-based violence and addicts. By restoring hope and facilitating lasting transformation within the most disenfranchised, God-given destinies are being attained. Your donation means an investment in hope and opportunity for these beautiful young people. Birth should be a beginning not an ending. By the time you have finished reading this paragraph a woman and her child in West Africa would have died in the process of childbirth. We are working to change that statistic and ensure that birth is a joyful time for families not a time of sorrow. Your donation will support this through increasing healthcare, education and providing facilitating social change. For more information please go to www.freedomtree.ca . For online donations, please go to https://freedomtree.ca/get-involved/donate/ and donate to the “David Gordon-Brown Memorial Fund.”
