Godlien, Mary Margaret

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our mother Mary Margaret (Pegi) Godlien, on 15 February 2021, at the age of 86. She was born to Margaret and Farquhar Alexander in a small farmhouse just outside of Melfort, SK where she grew up. She enjoyed being at her aunts’ farm near her home town where she had many fond memories with her relatives, and of course her aunts’ famous cooking and baking. After graduating high school in 1954 from Melfort Composite Collegiate High School, she moved to Dauphin, Manitoba where she attended nursing school. She graduated from nursing school in 1957, which later became her career. She moved back to Melfort where she practiced nursing at the local hospital. It was at that time she ran into a handsome fella, working for Sask Power, named Maynard, and fell in love. They married in the St. James Presbyterian Church on November 4, 1960 and later moved to Alberta in 1965. Finally settling down in 1976, Maynard became the Hospital Administrator for the Fort Saskatchewan General Hospital. Pegi nursed at the Rivercrest Nursing Home, Lamont Hospital and finally Alberta Hospital Edmonton, retiring in 1997.   She is lovingly remembered by her three children; Bernadette, Graham and Scott (Catherine), eight beautiful granddaughters; #1 Tommias (Dawid), #2 Jullie (Mike), #3 Shannon (Hank), #4 Shaynah, #5 Tiannah, #6 Kiarah, #7 Denayah and #8 Avah,  three great grandchildren; Caleb, Hazel and Asher (who lovingly referred to her as GG) and her brother Don (Anne) and a number of cherished relatives and friends.  She is predeceased by her parents; Margaret and Farquhar Alexander, Husband Maynard, brother Alistair and grandson Jesse. She has now rejoined her life partner Maynard to continue their journey. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held when we can all safely gather together again.

Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice or perform an act of kindness (or several) for someone in her memory.
