GIBBARD, Gertrude (Gertie) Ellen

August 8, 1932 – March 2, 2022

Gertrude Ellen Gibbard passed away peacefully after a long and fulfilling life on March 2, 2022 at the age of 89 years.

It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Gertie will be missed and forever remembered by her children Kim (Carol), Dawn (Dwayne), Cheryl (Gerry) and Ben (Marilyn); her grandchildren Jennifer (Keith), Carrie (Harley), Erin, Jackie, Tasha (Daryl), Kimberly (Ben), Christopher (Caitlin), Anna (Nathan), Luke, Tim (Bonnie), Katherine and Evan; her fourteen great-grandchildren; her siblings Darlene, Allan and Harold, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Gertie was predeceased by her father John Fleck, her mother Ida Fleck (Rennich), her brother Eugene Fleck and her husband Bill.

The Gibbard family would like to thank the entire staff of the Roozen Family Hospice Centre for their compassionate care of our mother during the last days of her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Southgate Alliance Church in Edmonton, Alberta on April 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be gratefully accepted at Pilgrims Hospice Society ( and Gull Lake Centre (

Gertie was my across-the-street neighbour for the better part of the last decade. She was such a friendly face; we chatted about gardening, parenting, and more than anything her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchilden, of whom she was so proud. I will miss her.
