Mrs. Hines, & Gerry’s family: My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. I had the pleasure of meeting this wonderful man in his “part time job” in Stony Plain, many years ago. We became great friends and I always looked forward to our meetings and gab sessions. Gerry loved to talk and tell stories! There are some folks that just leave a truly memorable and indelible mark on one’s memory …. That was Gerry! We shared many a story and he loved to tell of his exploits and his family! He loved you all very much and enjoyed keeping us posted on how everything was going and how well the family was doing. That cheerful smile and great hand shake are truly going to be missed!! I cannot imagine how many people were truly touched by this most personable gentleman but it had to be in the many hundreds! Even as I would go through the drive-thru, I would get the girls to give a hug to Gerry! He loved the attention and it made my day on many occasions. God Bless Gerry and we won’t forget the wonderful visits had with a truly fine gentleman! Rest in Peace my friend! Dennis Urban

I have lots of fond memories of Gerry and his family since my family lived on his farm at Marwayne. Gerry had a passion for his family, farming and his community. Gerry was a true mentor of mine since I was a budding teenager at the time of living on his farm. I first learnt how to drive not only a tractor but his old blue truck also. He & I worked close together cleaning out his barns and feeding his hogs. Then in the spring time, each year, we not only worked together preparing his land for the crops that we would harvest later on but we also drove cattle north to the Frog Lake area to the community pasture. This was almost a full day event where there would be lots of people herding the cattle but lots of great food was shared and cooked by his mom, Irma and his sister in-law Ruth. Gerry was never a shy person, as he would meet people for the first time, he would always greet them with a warm smile and a firm hand shake. He was always interested in meeting folks and getting to know them. Gerry is going to be terribly missed by everyone who crossed his pathway in life. God Bless him and may he rest in peace.
