Randy passed away peacefully on January 29th with his dear wife and best friend Trudy, by his side, after a short and intense battle with Cancer. He was 67.
Besides Trudy, he leaves a void in the lives of his sisters Karen McCullough, Glenda (Peter) Neufeld, as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and nephews from his and Trudy’s side of the family. Having no children of their own, they all were held very close to his heart.
He was very generous to all and delighted in being able to help his friends and family in any way he could, be it in business, life issues or just being there when they needed him. He was the family Mr. Fix-it and always found a way to help.
Randy grew up in Calgary, the son of George and Ruth Buchanan, and excelled in sports, or as he told everyone, as well as being an honor student through all his academic studies. He received his Bachelor of Science from U of C and majored in Geophysics. He won the Governor General’s award for Academic excellence.
Randy and Trudy were married in 1980 and from that day on you never saw one without the other. After graduating Randy jumped into the Oil and Gas business and for many years ran a number of successful oil companies both public and private. When Trudy felt a need to be a little closer to her family in Edmonton, Randy suggested they move there. A Calgarian at heart, it must have been a tough decision, especially to give up their Calgary Flames season tickets.
Randy had the biggest heart, sharpest mind and we always felt that he was larger than life and simply invincible.
Because of Randy’s many great, and great-great nieces and nephews, any donations may be made to the Stollery’s Children Hospital,
800 College Plaza,

At the request of the family, there will be no funeral services.
