My most sincere condolences to George Monckton’s family and close friends at the time of his passing.

Many who remember George will not discover the sad news of his death and you will not hear from them at this important time. I have not seen George for over 10 years, but have good memories of our relationships which began when he was a neurology teacher within the University of Alberta Hospital back in the 1960s. We shared patients later and helped each other out in many complex cases over the years. George was a very special person with students, medical colleagues and patients and we had a good many shared memories over his (and mine) professional lifetime. I last saw him when he was at a luncheon celebrating multiple sclerosis developmental research about 10 years ago and we had a good chat. I was delighted to see that he had not changed and we renewed our friendship as we shared our experiences in neuro-ophthalmology and neurology, our active medical fields, along with the experiences that we had over the many years.

He will be remembered very respectfully by countless people ranging from professional associates to patients and friends. When we met about 10 years ago, I was pleased to note that he was mentally, and appeared physically, as active as he used to be . I know I speak for many, otherwise silent, medical colleagues in remembering his qualities and regretting the inevitable pathway of life, which we must all face.

I hope that he enjoyed his life with good health and a bright mind until the last. He deserved it.

Again, with deep regrets I would like to extend sincere condolences to his family at this special time of mourning.

Rod Morgan, MD
