GAVINCHUK, George

On January 18th, 2022, we said goodbye to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, George Gavinchuk.

George was a kind, hard-working man with a deep love for woodworking and a sharp wit. George married his loving wife Lila in Heinsburg back in 1949, his passing marks the end of their 72-year-long love story. George developed a love for being out on the field on the farm where Lila grew up, and for years would be found driving around on the tractor or combine. George retired in 1986 as a Station Agent in Scotford after working at CN since the age of 17, in the era of steam engines and telegraph Morse Code. In 1976, George set out to build the ultimate project, his and Lila’s dream home in Fort Saskatchewan. After completion, he spent much of his summers manicuring the lawn and tending to the garden. Many memories of George continue to live on in the form of his woodworking which can be found in churches and homes in the Smoky Lake area. Throughout his life, George touched the hearts of those around him and will be dearly missed by family, friends, and neighbors. Though he may be gone, his memory will live through us forever.

George is survived by his wife, Lila; his children, Sandra (Bill), John (Andrea), and Marjorie (Alain); his grandchildren Aimee (Adam), Bill (Kacie), Jasmine, and Sophia; his great-grandchildren, Max, Kenzie and Holly; his siblings, Bill (Casie), Mary, Olga, Victor (Dreena); his brother-in-law Roy Kuziw (Delores). George was predeceased by his parents, John and Tikna; parents-in-law Walter and Lena Kuziw; his brother, Mike (Helen); his brothers-in-law, Steve Kuziw, Bill Hlushko, and Edwin Kielhbauch; son-in-law Dr. Douglas Grover, and his grandson, Benjamin Grover.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to the wonderful staff at Lamont Health Care Centre and to his caregiver, Nelsa, for their kindness and support shown to George in his last months.
