Garth Halbert Billington born September 8, 1930 in Portal, North Dakota US, and raised in Hirsch, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully in Edmonton on January 14, 2019, with his beloved wife Mona by his side.

Garth lived, loved and gave fully. A dedicated husband and family man, he was a man of integrity and true to his word. Garth worked tirelessly in his career, volunteering in his community and always was a man everyone could count on.

Garth spent his career in the oil industry, started with Regent Drilling and through many transitions, he retired in 1985 from BJ Titan.

He was a 57 year member of the Elks & Royal Purple, joining the Red Deer Lodge in 1962, then moving to Edmonton and finishing his service at Lodge #11.

Once retired, Garth and Mona joined the Edmonton Wheelers travel club in 1990, making great friends, enjoying camping and comradery. He spent 22 years of labour and love at the family lake lot in Mulhurst Bay, Pigeon Lake, giving us all memories to treasure.

Garth leaves to mourn his wife of 64 years, Mona; daughter Valerie Billington; grandchildren Candace and Ken; son Tom (Jeanette) Billington grandchild Terri Lynn (Rick) Jones and great-grandchildren Tia Billington and Hayden Jones; son Mark (Glenda Rouleau) Billington.

He was predeceased by his father Lester; mother Violet; daughter Lana Marie; grandson Randy; brother Ken and his wife Irma; sister Anita Naoum and her husband George, as well as many aunts, uncles and beloved family.

Mona and family express our sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Covenant Health Norwood Hospice Unit #13 for their remarkable and loving care for Garth in his final days.

A Memorial Service in Garth’s honor will be held on Friday January 18, 2019 at 11:00 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Parish, 210 Haddow Close NW, Edmonton, AB. Interment to follow at a later date.
