Gail Frances Berggren

Gail Berggren, 75 years of Avondale, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully on February 2, 2017 in Drayton Valley, Alberta surrounded by her loving family. Gail was born in Three Mile Plains, Hants County, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of the late Otis and Edna (Marr) Swinamer. She married in 1964 to the late Waldo Leslie Berggren and lived in Avondale where they ran a grocery store called Berggren’s Grocery for 30 years. Gail enjoyed meeting and serving the community. In her later years she enjoyed playing cards, going to jams and being an active member in her community where she held the president position at the Community Hall for years. Gail was also the superintendant of the Sunday School and a member of the UCW for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, Waldo Leslie Berggren; brothers, Douglas, Herman, Clarence, Roy Albert and sisters, Dorothy, Helen, Evelyn and Madeline. She is survived by her son, Leslie (Jane) Berggren of Drayton Valley, Alberta; daughter, Laura (Dennie) Macumber of Drayton Valley, Alberta; sister, Doreen of Belmont, Nova Scotia and brother Freeman (Frances) Swinamer of Three Mile Plains, Nova Scotia as well as 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. As per Gail’s wishes, cremation was held with no formal service to take place. A graveside service will be held at the Belmont Cemetery at a later date.
