FRIESEN, John William

At 1:15 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2021 God called our precious son, John William Friesen, home.

John passed peacefully in his sleep after a horrendous battle with virulent cancer, which he fought courageously to the end and never complained. As many of you know, John suffered from paranoid schizophrenia which prevented him seeking the attention needed to deal with cancer.

John is survived by his only son, Christopher Peynenburg; his love Margaret; his mother, Jennifer; his stepfather, Simon; his half-brother, Daniel Andrew and wife; his nephews: Charlie and Jeordie Andrew; his aunts: Janet Bakus and Jinny Hilliard; his uncles: Keith Spencer and Jay Peers, and his numerous cousins; in particular, John and Susan Bakus.

We’d like to say a special thank you to Alberta Health Services who enabled our ability to share the last seven weeks of John’s life in our home with us. Their support and care made this possible. When we could no longer give John the care, he needed they immediately found us the George Spady Society who could. They embraced us into a family environment where John was given 24/7 attention by caring and sensitive staff. This enabled him to relax and let go.
