Frederick A. Laux, Q.C.

August 25, 1938 – October 1, 2016

Fred passed away at the University of Alberta Hospital on October 1. He was much loved by his family, friends and colleagues.

Fred had a stellar law career, was retired as counsel to Shores Jardine LLP and was professor emeritus in law at the University of Alberta. He received his Master of Laws from Harvard University. He authored Planning Law and Practice in Alberta. He was also known as a global adventurer and gourmet cook.

He is survived by his daughter Allison Laux, his dear Melodie Langner and his brother John Laux. He was predeceased by his wife June Laux, son Craig Laux, sister Laura Castleman, sister Verna Harvey and brother Alvin Laux. He will also be missed by many other loving family members.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, October 13 at 1pm at the Old Timers Cabin, 9430 – 99 Street N.W. (Scona Road) in Edmonton.

Fred had a healthy and vigorous life. It was only very recently that symptoms from a benign brain tumour made brain surgery necessary. Though the surgery went well, complications post-surgery ended his life. In gratitude to the excellent work of Dr. Max Findlay, Dr. Jim Kutsogiannis, the nurses and other health care providers, the family invites you to make donations to the University of Alberta Hospital Division of Neurosurgery.
