SMITH, Francis (Frank) Andre
December 02, 1919 – March 01, 2014
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Smith of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta at the age of 94 years.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons Brent (Shirley) and Rodney, daughter Charlotte, grandchildren Melanie, Natalie, Kevin and Evan, sisters Louise and Edith and his best friend Dorothy Brunelle.
He was predeceased by his wife Susan Ruth, parents James and Emilienne, step-father Bertie, brother Thomas, and niece Zellah.
Frank was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, living and working on the family farm near Clairmont until joining the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941. After the war, his love of machinery steered him to a career with Massey Harris/Ferguson which eventually brought the family to Fort Saskatchewan. He ended his working career in Fort Saskatchewan with Smith Insurance Services Ltd.
Frank is known in the community for his love of hitting the road in his motorhome, smooth moves on the dance floor, quick wit, impeccable dress and DJ services. He was a regular feature at the local nursing home, extended care facility and other seniors’ facilities as well as at retirement parties and anniversaries into his late eighties when a back injury made moving his heavy sound system too difficult.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Dr. Stecyk and the many nurses and caregivers at the Fort Saskatchewan Community Hospital for their care and compassion provided over the past years.
A Celebration of Frank’s Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 15 in the Royal Canadian Legion, 9964 – 93 Avenue, Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

I am deeply sadden by Smitty’s passing. He was the one person left who could tell me stories about he and my dad. My sincere condolences to Brent, Rod and Charlotte. After my dad’s passing, your dad became my hero.
