FOGDEN, George Fredrick

Early in the morning of June 17, 2021, in Edmonton, Alberta, George Fredrick Fogden, 64 years old, passed away swiftly and peacefully in his sleep. George was a highly respected man who leaves behind a significant number of family and friends, all of whom have been deeply influence over the years by his quiet, unflappable, loyal, and steadfast presence; his deep commitment to those he loved and worked alongside; his pragmatic but generous nature which was always illuminated by a great sense of humour; and his way of doing and acting—rather than talking—to demonstrate his deep affection.

He leaves behind his wife, Laura, who he loved and to whom he committed himself for more than 45 years; his three beloved daughters: Rita, Polly, and Heather; his adored sons-in-law: Rene (Heather) and Phillip (Polly); and four amazing grandsons: Finnegan (Heather), Leaf and Sage (Polly), and Jensen (Rita); his brothers: Greg, Robert, and John in Nanaimo, BC; and an entire entourage of others within his family circle and myriad friends, all of whom are reeling by his sudden and wholly unanticipated departure.

An opportunity to attend his viewing will be on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, from 7:00-9:00 pm at Serenity Funeral Service, 5311 91 St, Edmonton, AB. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at 2:00 pm. An online streaming service will be provided to help facilitate mourners who cannot attend the 20 spaces available in the chapel. It may be accessed via the following link:

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the following charities: Ronald McDonald House, YESS-Youth Empowerment Support & Services, Edmonton Food Bank.

There will be an outdoor reception held at George’s home following the memorial service from the hours of 4:30-9:00 pm at 5613 14A Ave, Edmonton, AB.

To ensure health protocols remain in place throughout both events, we are asking people to remain masked while indoors, maintain social distancing, and to stagger their arrival at the reception over the afternoon and early evening so that the numbers of people gathering to celebrate George’s life adhere to current ordinances.

Our dear friend George was a quiet stoic type, who left Laura and Fran to gab and solve the world’s woes, at least according to us. It takes a special sort of person to just listen and smile and be part of our conversation without speaking much. The one thing I know for certain about George is that he loved Laura and his daughters and grandchildren without measure, without boundaries, deep in his soul. Love is a verb and does not need words. George worked hard every day of his life, for many years two jobs, to ensure his family had everything they needed, and as much of what they wanted as he could provide. That is love in action. We will miss your quiet presence my dear friend ❤️ We lost you far too soon
