Evelyn Sylvia Hein (nee Burroughs, Behiel) died peacefully in her home in Wetaskiwin, AB surrounded by family, at the age of 80 years old, on July 5, 2016.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Elson Hein; her 8 children, Linda (Levon) Hovagimian of Priddis, Cheryl (Pratap) Seitz of St. Albert, David Burroughs of Toronto, Phyllis (Ian) Paine of Kelowna, Darcy (Tammy) Burroughs of Wetaskiwin, Kenn Burroughs of Calgary, Jeannette (Rex) Johnson of Millet and Dann (M.J.) Burroughs of St. Albert; along with 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her siblings Vivian Lyons, Gilbert Behiel, Phyllis Nye and Jeannette Stalker. She is predeceased by her parents Arthur and Jeanne Behiel and her siblings Norman Behiel, Richard Behiel and Lorraine Dansereau.
Evelyn was born on March 31, 1936 in Edmonton AB as the 4th of 8 children and was raised on a farm outside of Fort Saskatchewan. She loved caring for her younger siblings, working in the garden and in the kitchen. She was schooled by the Nuns and eventually attended Lakeland Agricultural College in Vermillion where she received a diploma in Home Economics. It was in College that she met and shortly thereafter married Bob Burroughs to settle in Wetaskiwin, build a home and raise their 8 children while running the family business, Tastee-Delite Drive-In Restaurant in both Wetaskiwin and at Ma-Me-O Beach. After the sale of the restaurants, Evelyn worked many years in the Extended Care at the Wetaskiwin Hospital until her retirement 15 years ago.
Evelyn was a dedicated, hard-working and extremely well-loved wife, mom, grandmother and great-grandmother. She had many friends and was very involved in her community and with her church family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 5113 – 49 Avenue, Wetaskiwin, AB on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations are being accepted to the Sacred Heart Church in Wetaskiwin.
