Esther Kathleen Palfy

It is with great sadness that the family of Esther Palfy announce her sudden passing in Devon, Alberta on December 3, 2016.  Esther is survived by her sister Margaret Morrison of Abbotsford B.C. and brother Joseph Palfy of Vernon, B.C.  Esther was predeceased by her sister Mary Lonsberry and her brother Steve Palfy, brother-in-laws Tom Morrison, Gerald Lonsberry, and her very special companion and friend, her dog Kirby.

Her family was very important to her including her many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Esther was born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on January 11, 1942 into Stephan and Anne Palfy’s family.  She grew up on a farm in the Wiseton, Saskatchewan area where she completed her early school years.

Esther finished her grade 11 and 12 at Sion Academy in Saskatoon with the Sisters of Sion and entered the Novitiate in 1962 at age 18.  She chose to leave the Sion community in 1978 but maintained a very close bond with the Sisters.

Esther received a B.Ed from the University of Saskatchewan and Bachelor of Arts from the University of San Francisco. Over her 32 ½ year teaching career she taught in Saskatoon as well as numerous schools in the Edmonton area.

Esther had a love and passion for art of all kinds.  She would work with wood carving, wood burning, water colors and oil paints, and always finishing with a beautiful piece.  Esther loved to garden and her roses and cactus plants were her pride and joy.  Some of her other enjoyments were walking, meeting new friends, photography and travelling.

Esther managed to do a great deal of traveling and living in different parts of the world. She loved her time in San Francisco. She lived in Israel for a year, and also travelled to Brazil, Ireland, Japan and Hawaii making unforgettable lifelong friends along the way.

In her words “My life has been full and exciting, I always find something to appreciate and love in each person I meet”. God bless you Esther, you will be missed.

A heartfelt thanks to the staff at Discovery Place in Devon Alberta for their kindness and caring throughout her time with them.

Cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian burial will take place in Abbotsford, British Columbia in May 2017.
