Ernest George Hooper

1927 – 2020

With sadness, the family announces the death of Ernest Hooper at the age of 93 years. He is survived by his wife Katherine, his children Warren (Carolyn); Brenda (Sam); Gordon (Arlene); his daughter in law Maureen; his sister Joyce (Bob) Strachan, as well as eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Ernest was predeceased by his beloved son Jack.

Ernest joined the Edmonton Fire Department in 1952, retiring as a District Chief in 1987. He enjoyed his years as a singer and trumpet player in the Fire Department Band and the Trocadero Orchestra. He was an avid sportsman and when he could no longer play, he watched hockey, golf, baseball and curling at every opportunity. Right up until last summer, he took great pride in growing the best and biggest tomatoes in the neighborhood.

In keeping with Ernest’s wishes, no service will be held. Flowers are gratefully declined and if so desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Rest now Dad, your work is done.

Ernie was such a kind gentleman with a quiet demeanour. I always enjoyed him whenever we were together which was far too little.

Ernie and Katie were so kind and helpful to my dad and I the day my mother died unexpectedly. Not an easy situation for them but they handled it with such kindness and grace it has always been remembered even after 27 years.

A man well loved and a life well lived!
