Erna Louise Wiens

It is with sadness and love that we say goodbye to Erna our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt who passed away June 29, 2017 at the age of 84 years. Erna, the much loved wife of Henry, was born in Grande Prairie, Alberta on December 7, 1932. Her family lived and farmed in the Wembley area. After leaving school she worked at the Tofield hospital and in the Aberhart hospital in Edmonton. She married Henry Wiens on July 1, 1956 and for almost 61 years they have celebrated their anniversary on Canada Day. They raised two sons and a daughter and were blessed to be grandparents. Erna devoted her life to serving others through foster parenting, babysitting, volunteering for the Good Samaritan Society and at her local church, cooking for Hope Mission and James River Camp, and showing numerous acts of kindness to her family and neighbors. Erna’s hospitality, handiwork, and quick wit were appreciated by all her friends and family.

Erna will be lovingly remembered by her husband Henry; her children Brian and Deanna Wiens; Karen and Gordon Poole; and Kevin and April Wiens and her grandchildren Stephen, Micah, and Marek. Erna was predeceased by her parents Peter and Agnes Epp and her brother Jack.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 4, 2017 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 5311-91 street. A Funeral Service for Erna will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Richmond Park Evangelical Missionary Church, 9340 – 69 Ave. with Reverend Wayne Shirton officiating. Interment will follow at South Haven Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Millwoods Shepherd’s Care Centre and the doctors and nurses at the Grey Nuns Hospital for the kindness, compassion, and support they gave to Erna.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made in Erna’s name to Hope Mission or a charity of your choice.
