Eric Huebner was born on a cold and frosty morn in January of 1928. He was the fourth of nine children born to Adolf and Martha Huebner. He was their first child to be born in Canada. He grew up on the farm where he was born and attended the Swan Hills School. In 1948 he met his soul mate and future wife, Hilda. They were married on August 16, 1950 and to their union five children were born – Raymond, Donna, Debby, Jean and Kathy.
Eric and Hilda lived and worked on a mixed farm two miles north of Hay Lakes, Alberta. This would be their home for 60 years. Eric worked very hard all of his life – on the farm, for Hickey’s Blacksmith Shop, as a bus driver, as a grader and snowplough operator, on road construction and seismic crews and at various other jobs. He ‘retired’ in the 1990s. In 2012 Eric and Hilda moved into a senior’s apartment in Leduc. Eric passed away peacefully in hospital on February 28, 2016.
Eric was a good husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. He will be very much missed by all of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Hilda; son Ray (Linda) Huebner; daughters Donna (Rudy) Kneller, Debby (Lyle) Klein, Jean (Reg) Matson, and Kathy (Vern) Ansorger; sister Lily Snell; brothers Bobby and Clarence Huebner. Left to mourn are also 16 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Adolf and Martha Huebner; brothers Bernie and Arnold; sisters Helen, Adeline and Elsa. May he rest in peace.
