It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Maxine Marilynn Elliot, who passed away suddenly on October 28, 2020 in Edmonton at the age of 85 years.
After raising her family, Maxine devoted herself to a new career. Through hard work and study, she realized her long-time ambition, obtaining a Ph.D. in Psychology in 1991. Throughout her subsequent career, she influenced and helped many others, first through her teaching at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Alberta. She then worked as a clinical psychologist, most recently at the Glenrose Hospital, where she worked with brain injury and stroke patients. Maxine had a real sense of adventure and loved to travel. Throughout her life she remained an enthusiastic learner and a voracious reader. She had many friends with whom she enjoyed sharing a good meal and a nice glass of wine. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and the many others whose lives she touched.
Maxine is survived by her children Vincent Crooks, Margolee Horn, Tracee Vickerman (Ken), and Lauren Crooks; grandchildren Ryan (Dana), Kelsey (Benjamin), Adam, Dillon, Emily, Jenine, and Jessica; great-grandchildren Bari, Cassie and Cyril; her sister Inez Nolan; her niece and nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her long-term partner Bob Barnes.
A Celebration of Maxine’s Life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice.
