“A Long Life – Well Lived”

Eleanor (Nora) Lavery passed away at Hardisty Care Centre in Edmonton, AB on December 16, 2019.  She is predeceased by her loving husband Pat, parents Edwin and Bridget Olsen, and sister May.

Nora was born in Val Rita, Ontario and soon after graduating from Kapuskasing High School found herself living in Churchill, Manitoba for a few years.  Restless to explore other parts of Canada she moved to Jasper, Alberta in 1954 where fate would connect her with her soulmate, Pat Lavery.  The two were married in Jasper on April 11, 1955 and inseparable for the next 63 years. They soon moved to Edmonton and raised their three children.

Nora and Pat retired early to Gull Lake, AB where they quickly immersed themselves within the community as small business owners and tireless volunteers. Though a quiet sidekick to the gregarious Pat, Nora was a calm five foot tall force, who ran her own business into her sixties, was always elegantly dressed, and epitomized the quote: “I don’t say much, but I listen a lot”.

Nora is survived by son Brent (Julie); grandchildren Brandon and Brynn; daughter Gail (Arnie); grandchildren Jason, Ryan, Kyle (Lynette), and Brandi; son Wayne (Skye); grandchildren Emma, Sean, and Hayes; and great-grandchildren Connor, Claire, and Max.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Hardisty Care Centre in Nora’s final days. There will be no public Celebration of Life; however, Nora and Pat will soon be interred in Bentley, AB Cemetery during a private family gathering.  Condolences and tributes can be made at serenity.ca and memorial donations in lieu of flowers are preferred through www.alzheimer.ca/en/ab.
