With a deep sense of sorrow and loss, our family announces the passing of David; husband, father, son, brother & friend on September 29, 2019 at the age of 56. David was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at the young age of 19 and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science, his medical degree and then became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Psychiatry) all the while dealing with his disease. David had an inner strength and a resiliency that was an example and inspiration to those around him, even when things were at a very low point he still kept his sense of humour and concern for others. David’s strength and spirit for life came from his love of God. His faith was evident to all who knew him.
David is lovingly remembered by his wife, Emily and his children, Matthew and Arabella as well as his parents, Matthew and Cynthia Spence and his sisters, Carolyn and Rachael. His earthly presence will be missed; however, the example he set focusing on as much positive energy as possible will live on in his family. The knowledge that he is walking and dancing in heaven is a source of comfort for those that he has left behind.
A Celebration of David’s Life will be held on November 9, 2019 at 2 pm at Dayspring Presbyterian Church in Edmonton.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of the healthcare professionals for their kindness, support and care shown to David during his journey through life dealing with Multiple Sclerosis.
David’s desire was to help people, especially people dealing with Multiple Sclerosis. To that end, memorial contributions can be made to the MS Society of Canada in honour of Dr. David Spence.
