It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Edna Margaret Jane Downs (nee Dodds) of Edmonton, Alberta on May 19, 2021 at the age of 94 years. Edna was predeceased by her loving husband of 30 years, Roy Downs and her brothers Allan and Ernie Dodds.
Edna leaves behind three generations of nieces nephews, and their partners. She quietly impacted the lives of so many and will forever be remembered as the steady heartbeat of our family and her numerous friends. Edna often said, “I have so many wonderful friends; I am so blessed”.
She was born in Loreburn, Saskatchewan, raised in Davidson and received her Degree in Education from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. She moved to Lamont, Alberta to start her teaching career. Edna retired as head of the Mathmatics Department at Strathcona Composite High School in Edmonton.
Edna was an active participant in both curling and golfing well into her 80’s. She held Eskimos season tickets until Roy converted her to be a Blue Jay’s fan. Playing bridge was one of her passions and she continued to play bridge online throughout the pandemic. For over 15 years she would drive her three young nephews over 8 hours to the farm in Lumsden Saskatchewan to be with their grandparents and cousins. Edna had a quick wit and was respected for being just and fair. She was a beautiful person and loving Aunt who donated generously to her charities.
Due to Covid restrictions Edna’s Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the University Hospital foundation.
